Detailed Product Description of the vStar DMA3000T&R

The vStar DMA3000T&R system transmits audio and video signals from the DMA3000-T unit to the DMA3000-R unit, over Amedia's proprietary 5 GHz wireless network, by encoding the signals according to MPEG standards. The T unit can be embedded in a Video Source device (DVD, VCR, PVR, STB, or PC). The R unit can be embedded in a Video Display device (TV, flat panel or video monitors).

The IR function enables the user to control the Video Source devices from a remote TV. The user can use the original remote control of the video source devices (such as DVD) by pointing the remote control at an IR receiver located at the R unit. The IR signals are conveyed by the wireless network to the T unit. Discrete I/O ports can interface to LEDs and buttons.

Benefits:

  • Plug and play with most of the A/V devices. No hassle for software and network setting
  • Certified by FCC (FCC ID: U8B-DMA3-1L) and Industry Canada (IC: 7105A-DMA31L)
  • Integrated on-board antennas
  • Production ready

Key Features:

The following is a list of the key features of the vStar DMA3000T&R system.

  1. Auto detection of NTSC and PAL
  2. Built-in IR receiver to remotely control A/V source
  3. Close-loop power control to minimize power consumption and be a friendly neighbor to other WLAN networks at 5 GHz
  4. Digital wireless technology using 5 GHz radio spectrum
  5. Dynamic channel selection technology to resist interference
  6. Hardware encryption for network security with 128-bit Advance Encryption Standard (AES) so secure networking to assure privacy and content rights protection
  7. MPEG-2 standard video compression and decompression
  8. Multiple pairing technology allows one Sender to pair with multiple Receivers
  9. Supports 4.9 to 5.9 GHz frequency band and is controlled by software to comply with different country spectrum requirements
  10. Supports point-to-multipoint A/V broadcasting
  11. Supports point-to-point video connection with full QoS and guaranteed full QoS transporting of multimedia contents
  12. Synchronous TDMA network to guarantee QoS - truly real time and jitterless
  13. Transmission of IR control signals to the video source devices from the TV location
  14. Whole home coverage with advanced antenna diversity technology
  15. With WiVi™ technology, high quality video streams can be delivered wirelessly to anywhere in the home through walls for distance up to 70 meters (250 feet) while maintaining their original quality
  16. One year warranty

Figure 1. WiVi™ Technology vs. Standards

Figure 1 illustrates the position of WiVi™ technology versus WLAN and WPAN standards. It is worth pointing out that WiVi™ technology sharing same baselines with the unpcoming standards of 802.11n and UWB leaves Amedia Networks quick paths to migrate the proprietary technology toward standardization.

Figure 2. Field Test in Home Environment

Figure 2 illustrates the performance of WiVi™ technology in a typical residential home environment: a two-story, stucco construction, approximately 2,600 square-foot house with lots of home appliances and furniture. WiVi™ technology enables a single network to cover the entire 2-story home with 25 Mbps HDTV stream. Even in the brick and masonry garage, 20 Mbps HDTV stream can be easily maintained.

Figure 3. Field Test in Enterprise Environment

Figure 3 illustrates the performance of WiVi™ technology in a typical enterprise environment: an approximately 10,000 square-foot office and lab space with heavy multipath and lots of moving objects and people. The link coverage is quite remarkable in that 20 Mbps HDTV stream is deliverable to most of the locations in this office/lab space except for two collection points that are shadowed by the elevator well. Even in this area, 15 Mbps SDTV stream can be easily maintained.
